Are these things dangerous?

I took my car (fiat brava) in for its MOT today and it failed on

* Offside front (drop link) anti-roll bar rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement,

* Offside track rod end ball joint has excessive play.

Could anybody tell me what these things do or are for?

Thanks xx|||The anti-roll bar stops the car leaning excessively on corners, the drop link is part of the mechanism

The track rod is the link between the steering rack and the front road wheel, its adjustable and allows the front wheels to be aligned correctly, the ball joint is the swivel joint at the outer end of the track rod.

It's important to your safety that these items are in good serviceable condition.|||They actually relate to the road handling of the car.

You have anti-roll bars to help when cornering, if the bush has gone, it means that the bar doesn't work as it should, and could cause more damage by wearing away.

The track-rod ends have a ball joint, if these start to wear then you will get the feel of "bumping" through the steering wheel as you drive, and will again cause more problems if they are not fixed.

So sorry, to make it safe for you to drive on the road, you will need to get them fixed.|||Tie/track rod end ball joint, if that comes loose the wheel will come loose from the steering and you will wreck. Roll bar/ sway bar bushings, the sway bar is a piece that stops the body of the car from swaying back and forth in cornering. The bushings are rubber pieces that provide the "give" to the sway bar. It has to have some body roll but too much and the car will feel like crap on the road. Parts+Labor is around $200-300 USD most likely.|||Anti roll bar is to do with your suspension, it is important, as it keeps your car firmly planted on the road and not bouncing all over the place.

The track rod end is very important, it is to do with the steering and you know what happens if you can't steer in a straight line. You will come to some serious grief.|||track rod yes, drop link no....

old cars didn't even have an anti roll bars fitted...they used to sway/lean into corners...the job of an anti roll bar is as a car goes round a corner,a tempered anti roll bar forces the opposite suspension arm up holding it levels..the link bars attach the anti roll bar to the suspension arms.....

track rod end is a ball joint at the end of your staring rack,it attaches to the wheel hub...if thsat brakes then the wheels can go in different directions, you'll have no steering...nasty.|||Hi

Drop link is bar that operates the tension in the suspension and is there to stabalise the car during cornering....it is important that it works properly.

Track rod end can fail and cause the steering to become inoperative.....i.e...you cannot steer the car.

Get it done it is not expensive but is dangerous.|||They are part of your suspension and steering.

Yes they can be dangerous if they fail or wear to near failure.

Get it fixed ASAP
